Cobiax for the first time in Greece

Cobiax finally in Greece! In December 2019, Cobiax lightweight concrete slabs were introduced in the greek market.

More specifically, they were placed in a complex of three statically independent buildings under construction in Varko District in the Municipality of Aktio–Vonitsa, in the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania. The buildings will be used as seaside villas.

When designing the building complex, one of the main goals of the engineering team was the maximum possible reduction of the slab weight and the slab height and the maximum possible increase of the span lengths. So using Cobiax slab was the best solution both compared to the relevant solid slabs and to slabs with girders (Zoellner Sandwich) which are widely used in Greece. Different types of the Cobiax SL product line were used in order to achieve three different slab thicknesses. More specifically, SL 120-140 was used for slabs of 25 cm thickness, SL 180-200 was used for slabs of 30 cm thickness, and SL 220-240 was used for slabs of 35 cm thickness.

The assembly of the semi-shells including the steel mesh and the following laying was done in the construction site using a wooden spacer. A structural engineer of ENKA Technologies (distribution partner of Cobiax in Greece) was on site to oversee the correct assembly of the semi-shells and their installation as complete void formers in the formwork. The whole process (assembly of the Cobiax void formers, installation in the formwork, concrete casting) was easily executed. The builder determined the Cobiax process much easier than the otherwise usual slabs with girders (Zoellner Sandwich).

With this first greek project and with positive experiences throughout, ENKA Technologies looks forward to the next tasks.

Wider Scopes as an obligation
Cobiax is more than just a brand. The catch phrase “Wider Scopes” extends far beyond the possibilities for modern slab technology. It is a commitment to providing more room for play for people, in the scopes and spaces in which they live and work.
