The Vodafone Campus was designed in order to bring all of the scattered Vodafone locations in Germany together in a central location. The former Gatzweiler premises in Düsseldorf was chosen as the new location. The building consists of three blocks, a parking garage with 2,500 parking spaces and the 19-storey office tower.

In the planning stages, it was already clear that only an intelligent, sustainable construction would meet Vodafone’s high demands: A contemporary environment needed to be created for the employees. The campus houses a company nursery school, a medical centre, a gym and a restaurant that seats 1,200 people.

The oval tower is 75 m high, and it has a gross surface area of more than 85,809 m2, above the ground, which corresponds to about 12 football fields. 4,500 m2 of glass windows ensure that the building is flooded with light, and 14,815 m2 of grounds surrounding the buildings, and 12 roof terraces, enable the employees to spend their breaks outdoors.

The Vodafone Campus is a veritable wellness oasis.

Elegantly elliptical

Enabled by Cobiax EL.

The results of the weight optimization with Cobiax technologies are impressive: a saving of 16,250 kN was achieved for the slabs. This reduction enabled the generous maximum span of around 9 meters, with slab thicknesses of just 28 cm each. Without voided slab technology, more columns would have been required, or alternatively, a solid slab, which would have been very much thicker.

Thanks to the weight reduction, the weight-bearing components, such as the columns and the foundations of the building, could be made lighter; the lighter design leads to cost reductions and optimized aesthetics of the building.

The Vodafone Campus fully meets the planners’ sustainability requirements – it was awarded Gold in the LEED Certifications.
